TRAVEL BETWEEN DOWNTOWN TORONTO AND McMASTER UNIVERSITY

There is frequent commuter train and bus service ("GO Service") from downtown Toronto to downtown Hamilton and also from downtown Toronto directly to McMaster University.  The McMaster University service uses the train from Union Station to Burlington, Ontario, where it connects with a bus that goes directly to the McMaster campus. Although a bit longer than taking direct transportation from downtown Toronto to downtown Hamilton, this McMaster University service is the most convenient way to travel between downtown Toronto and the site of the conference.  The schedule is available on the GO Transit web site:

Highway 403 goes to the western part of Hamilton, the location of McMaster University and the suggested accommodations.  The venue for the conference is the McMaster University Student Centre (MUSC), located on the McMaster campus.  McMaster has a large campus, with two entrances (and a car-free pedestrian area between them).  The system of one-way streets in Hamilton complicates driving.  If possible, take a taxi or bus to MUSC, as parking on the campus is expensive ($ 15/day).

If you do drive to McMaster, the 403 exit you take depends on the direction of travel.  If you are driving on the 403 westbound (i.e., from Toronto or Niagara) exit at West Main Street.  The Main Street West exit is just past the East Main Street exit.  Turn left on Main Street West, right on Cline Avenue, and left on Sterling Street.  Follow Sterling Street to the Sterling Street entrance to campus.

If you are driving on the 403 eastbound (i.e., from London and Detroit), you should exit the 403 at Aberdeen Avenue.  Turn left on Longwood Road to King Street.  Turn left on King Street to Sterling Street.  Turn right on Sterling Street and follow Sterling Street to the entrance to McMaster.

Detailed driving directions to the Visitors Inn and the Sheraton Hotel may be found at links on their web sites:

There is frequent bus service from both hotels to McMaster.  The Visitor's Inn is the closest accommodation to McMaster University.  It is about 2 miles from the site of the conference.  The busses to McMaster travel on King Street West.  The Visitor Inn is located on Main Street West.  To get to King Street West from Main Steet West walk two blocks north.  Take any bus and get off at the first stop on the McMaster campus.  The Sheraton is located at 116 King Street West.  Take any bus along King Street to McMaster.
