Synapses between the MNTB and LSO release glutamate in addition to GABA and glycine during the developmental period of synaptic refinement. Using the whole-cell patch-clamp method in acute brainstem slices, I am currently characterizing the prevalence and relative contribution of NMDA and AMPA glutamate receptors at this synapse. Outside of the lab I am a big music and baseball (Boston Red Sox!) fan.

B.Sc. McMaster (Psychology)

Previous research experience includes an undergraduate thesis project in Dr. Kathy Murphy's lab where we looked at the effects of monocular deprivation on visual cortical vasculature. In the Gillespie lab, I am looking at synaptic inputs in the developing brainstem. Outside the lab I enjoy cycling, swimming, the gym, my five brothers, and reading. More specifically, I like reading about science history and the impacts of science on society.
